EVision Electric Vehicles Wins Fleet Contract with Medway Council

EVision Electric Vehicles - BMWs

EVision Electric Vehicles has won a year’s contract with unitary authority Medway Council to provide six BMW i3s, in a bid to help tackle concerns around climate change and to advocate smart technology.

As part of the 12-month pilot, ten social workers will be able to use the six electric vehicles as pool cars to travel across the Medway towns. This will enable the social workers to provide support to vulnerable children and families in the area. It is hoped the success of the pilot will enable the Council to electrify their fleet even further and provide access to electric vehicles for more social workers, as well as for other departments.

The electric vehicles can travel around 175 miles on a full charge, and it takes around four hours to charge the i3s from empty to full.

Medway Council

In 2019, Medway Council declared a climate change emergency and plans to support this work are underway.

Cllr Howard Doe, Deputy Leader of Medway Council and leading on Medway’s Climate Change agenda, said: “This electric vehicle pilot scheme supports our ongoing work to find ways for Medway to become more environmentally friendly. We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and tackling climate change in Medway.”

Hugh Edeleanu, Chairman of EVision Electric Vehicles whose head office is in Medway, said: “EVision is pleased and proud to have secured a green fleet management contract for another public sector organisation. We are delighted to have helped Medway Council bring together electric vehicles and a charging infrastructure, to assist in reducing the impact of climate change within the Medway towns. As well as continue to champion support for Central Government’s initiative to promote the change to electric vehicles.”
