Which BMW electric cars would you choose?

electric cars from BMW

At the moment, it could seem as though BMW are slightly behind on releasing new electric cars.

The only electric car on sale at the moment is the BMW i3, which is now six years old.

They also have the iX3, which is of course very new. However it is somewhat lacking in terms of the range and performance, in comparison to other electric releases currently being introduced.

That being said, the German manufacturer has stated that they will soon launch the new i5 and i7 saloons as part of their upcoming headline of nine other models.

The new cars will be released as a start to its new ‘Power of Choice’ sustainability plan. They have committed to selling more than seven million plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles by the end of 2030.

The BMW i3

Despite being released in 2013, the BMW i3 is still a strong competitor in the world of electric cars. This is due to how convenient it is for basic driving needs and city/town commuting.

With the BMW i3, we have also seen newer models introduced and they continue to improve over time.

We have to say, as one of the first cars to have on our fleet, we still love them just as much!

When it comes to range and battery, drivers should expect to receive at least 190 miles on a full charge when based on the 2020 model.

However this can vary by how the car is driven, plus how many interior features are used on the journey.

Charging a BMW i3

The charging time will change depending on the cable or charging station that is used.

As an example, when you’re out, the BMW i3 can be charged from 0 – 80% in 40 minutes using a 50kWh charger.

However, when using a 3 pin charger at home, the BMW i3 can be charged from 0 – 80% in around 3 – 5 hours. Most EV drivers will opt for a charger installation at home, so their electric vehicles can be charged overnight, or whilst they’re at home.

The BMW i3 also offers a simplistic but futuristic style both on the outside and inside. BMW i3 drivers can benefit from a 10.25” central display screen, Apple CarPlay and park distance control. All features that are sure to increase driving pleasure.

So what electric cars can we expect from BMW?

BMW iX7

One of the models taken from the lineup is the BMW iX7. Which is supposedly going to be the brand’s flagship electric model.

In terms of its size, it is said to be similar to the original X7. Whilst also sharing similar styling. The main difference is that it’s powered entirely by electric motors. It will also be the most luxurious electric car in the brand’s lineup, which is a similar trait to the original model.

The iX7 has also been rumoured to have:

  • Modified front/rear apron
  • Enclosed kidney grille
  • More aerodynamic wheels
  • Blue accents all around for a distinctive identity

We certainly can’t wait to see the reveal!

BMW iNEXT

Furthermore, we move onto the BMW iNEXT, which you may also know as the BMW iX5.

The confusion arose because when it was first launched as a concept, it was named the iNEXT.

Although there are some other sources that are calling it the iX5 due to its similarity in size to the original X5.

The iNEXT is way ahead of the game when it comes to technology. BMW have played with the idea of introducing Shy-Tech. The idea behind this is that BMW use ‘normal’ surfaces that can transform into user interfaces.

An example they have teased us with is the Jacquard cloth in the car. It comes to life simply by touching it, and can control the music playing in the car.

Some other BMW models that are currently in the works include:

  • i4
  • i5
  • i1
  • A newer and replaced version of the BMW i3
